ST. PAUL (AP) -- On a day when the state's elite wrestlers converged on the Xcel Energy Center for the state wrestling finals, Apple Valley and Blue Earth gave notice that they still have a leg up on the competition.
Apple Valley won its fourth consecutive Class 3A team title and four Eagles wrestlers claimed individual championships. Blue Earth Area won its second straight Class 2A team title and won three individual championship trophies.
Apple Valley (39-0), ranked third in the nation, has won 117 consecutive dual meets against Minnesota schools.
But the biggest drama of the day might have come in the Class 1A team final, where Frazee scored a pin in the last match to tie Medford 25-25 and share the title with the Tigers.
Minnesota State High School League rules dictate that ties are not broken in championship rounds, so although Frazee won seven matches to six for Medford.
