ST. PAUL (AP) -- A St. Paul man pulled five teen-agers from a burning car after it crashed into a tree and his East Side house.
Douglas and Katherine Fitzgerald were watching television Saturday night when they heard a loud bang. A car had careened into a tree and then swiped their house on Flandrau Street.
On impact, the vehicle's engine compartment burst into flames, police said. Katherine Fitzgerald called 911, while her husband, who was only wearing shorts, ran outside and began helping the teens from the car.
Doug Fitzgerald, a 44-year-old siding installer, got the three teen-agers in the backseat and the driver out. Fitzgerald bent the front seat back as flames flickered closer to the boy.
