WALKER - Cass County Sheriff Randy Fisher announced Tuesday he will not seek re-election this fall, but will complete his term through the end of this year.
Fisher has been employed by the sheriff's department 34 years. In 2000, Sheriff Jim Dowson retired during his elected term of office and appointed Fisher, who was then chief deputy, to succeed him and fill out the balance of his term.

Voters elected Fisher to four-year terms in 2002 and 2006. Fisher has been the county's 12th sheriff.
Fisher said in a prepared statement to the board Tuesday:
"Through hard work, increased efficiencies and increased collaboration, we will continue to succeed in our efforts to provide quality services to the citizens of Cass County," he said.
"It has been a humbling experience to serve as sheriff," he said in a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon.
