The Brainerd Safety and Public Works Committee will meet at 2 p.m. Monday at Brainerd City Hall to discuss the downtown alley underground utility issue and the Front Street lighting with Brainerd Public Utilities Superintendent Tom Phelps.
Staples Police open house set March 13
STAPLES - An public open house for the Staples Police Department's new offices will be from 2-6 p.m. on March 13 at 301 Second Ave. N.E.

Homelessness is topic of League of Women Voters meeting
The League of Women Voters of the Brainerd Lakes Area announced speakers for its noon March 12 meeting will be Patrice O'Leary, of Lutheran Social Services, Bob Nelson, of Veteran Services, and Lacey Thompson, of New Pathways and the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
The speakers are all involved in programs and new initiatives for the homeless as well as plans and preparation for what many believe will be an increased demand for their services.
The meeting will be conducted at the First Congregational UCC Church at 415 Juniper St. in Brainerd.
February snowfall slightly behind 10-year average
The short month of February yielded 8 inches of snow at the Brainerd Area Forestry Office, compared to the 10-year average of 9.05 inches. Snowfall for the season is 41.5 inches compared to an average of 32.8 inches.
Precipitation in February was 1.08 inches compared to an average of .76 of an inch. Year-to-date precipitation is 1.44 inches compared to an average of 1.24 inches.
February's high temperature was 42 degrees on Feb. 9. The low temperature was 22 below on Feb. 4.

Senior dance planned
