More than $4,000 was raised at the Tsunami Relief Benefit Show Saturday at Tornstrom Auditorium, Washington Middle School, Brainerd.
Nancy Cross, of Brainerd Community Action, said Wednesday about 650 people attended the event to watch nearly 100 performers in the Brainerd lakes area, including Music General dancers and the Blues Brothers.
Admission was $10, or $7 plus a school supply or a stuffed animal, and all proceeds will go to the tsunami relief fund in Thailand. Cross said $4,439 was raised through admission and other donations and several boxes of school supplies and teddy bears were collected.
"The collection of the money was, of course, the greatest part of the event," said Cross. "But seeing several organizations and individuals pull together for a common cause was great."
Cross said they plan to continue to take cash donations, school supplies or stuffed animals through April 1. She said if anyone wants to drop off donated items for the relief fund, they should go to the Ivy Room at 710 Laurel St. in Brainerd. Cash donations can be sent to Brainerd Community Action at 213 S. Fifth St., Brainerd.
Cross said students in the Brainerd School District were given a flier seeking help with the relief fund. She'll pick up any donated items after April 1.
Once all the donations are collected youth groups in the Brainerd lakes area will help package the items to send to Thailand.
