The USDA Farm Service Agency for Crow Wing and Cass Counties' deadline to sign up for the Tree Assistance Program ends March 18.
The USDA Tree Assistance Program provides financial relief to owners of eligible trees, bushes, vines and forest land that suffered losses due to natural disasters between Dec. 1, 2003, and ending Dec. 31, 2004.

Pillager parent/teacher conferences planned
PILLAGER -- Pillager elementary and high school parent/teacher conferences are planned 3:30-7:30 p.m. March 10 at the school.
A free spaghetti dinner sponsored by the National Honor Society will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. March 10.
Clues begin for Crosslake treasure hunt
CROSSLAKE -- A Pot O' Gold has been hidden within the city limits of Crosslake to kick off the city's St. Patrick's Day festivities.
Clues will be available at Crosslake businesses, as well as published in the Lake Country Echo, Echoland Shopper and Brainerd Dispatch. Or listen to the clues by calling a recorded message at the Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce at 822-7104 or visit the chamber's Web site at www.explorebrainerdlakes.com.
The first clue is:
Cruise along 66 through Crosslake
If found, the Pot O' Gold you will take
Whether you come from near or far
You may walk or take a car
Keep your eyes open and look around
And soon the treasure will be found
If you find the Pot O' Gold, turn it in at Reed's Market in Crosslake. The winner will receive $100 in Brainerd Lakes Bucks if he or she has a "blinkie" button. With no button, the winner will receive $50 in Brainerd Lakes Bucks.
The winner will be announced during the parade 2 p.m. March 12.
Governor appoints Blanck to state panel
ST. PAUL -- Crow Wing County Engineer Duane Blanck was reappointed Tuesday to the Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscaping Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty made the appointment.
Blanck, Nisswa, was reappointed as a representative of engineers. His four-year term will expire Jan. 5, 2009.
February snowfall was slightly above average
February snowfall, the Brainerd DNR forestry office reported, was 9 inches compared to the 10-year average of 8.15 inches.
Season snowfall still lags behind the average, at 34.5 inches compared to 40.25 inches.
February's high temperature was 52 degrees Feb. 12. The low temperature was 12 below zero Feb. 18.
SWCD, water committee to meet Thursday
The Crow Wing County Soil and Water Conservation District Board will meet with the Crow Wing County Water Plan Advisory Committee at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Ag Service Center, 7118 Clearwater Road, Baxter.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss how the water plan is operated, potential changes in the Water Plan Advisory Committee structure and a potential Challenge Grant application.
