Free tax assistance and filing is provided at the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College through a partnership with the American Association of Retired Persons and the Internal Revenue Service.
Anyone earning less than $35,000 is eligible for the free service. Volunteers, including accounting students at CLC who are enrolled in the Income Tax II course, will complete tax returns and electronically file them.

Accounting students are available for tax preparation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the rear portion of the computer commons near the cafeteria. Call for an appointment. Volunteers will be available until April 12 to help file returns.
Herbal soap-making class set March 18
STAPLES -- Herbal soap-making is the first class of the 2004 season at Living Legacy Gardens, located at the Central Lakes Ag Center near Staples.
Mary Vogel will demonstrate melting and pouring handcrafted herbal soaps during two sessions March 18. The first session will run 1 to 4 p.m. and the second from 6 to 9 p.m. in the classroom in the Ag Center office building. Each session is limited to 12 participants.
The fee is $25 and includes all materials. Pre-registration is required through Shirley Judd at (218) 894-5161 or 1-800-247-6836, extension 5161.
Vogel, a local crafter and Wadena County Master Gardener, will help class members as they make a variety of soaps to take home. She will share information regarding natural additives, color, fragrance and molds.
The Ag Center is 2.5 miles north of Staples on County Road 30 and then one-half mile west on County Road 2.
