Installation of rector

The Rev. Canon Steven Schaitberger, representing the Rt. Rev. James Jelenik, Episcopal bishop of Minnesota, will formally install the Rev. Glenn E. Derby as rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Schaitberger will also be the preacher. St. Paul's plans a gala installation liturgy. Many of the congregation will present Derby with gifts representing his ministry and many area clergy and Episcopal clergy from throughout the diocese have been invited to participate. The liturgy will be followed by a formal supper served in the undercroft.

Derby, his wife Alison and two children, Emily and Chris, arrived at St. Paul's on July 1, 1998. His assignment was to be special priest in charge. He was elected rector in December 1999 by the St. Paul's Vestry. Derby came to Brainerd from Sussex, Wis., where he had been the rector of St. Alban's for 15 years. His wife works as the liaison as the director of christian formation for St. Paul's. He is a board member of Habitat for Humanity and active in the area soup kitchen.

Trinity Lenten schedule

The Lenten worship schedule begins Ash Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd. "More Than Soup" supper will be served from 5:15-5:55 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, immediately followed by worship at 6 p.m. in the Nave. The Trinity Light Worship Team will lead the Lenten services.

Pancake supper

St. Paul's Church will have its annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and children's carnival on Tuesday. Tickets will be available at the door. The public is welcome.For more information, call the church at 829-3834.

Honey of a Festival

Park United Methodist Sunday School will sponsor a festival featuring food, games and activities from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday. With the earnings and donations, they will buy bees as beehives through the Heifer project as their mission project this year.

Women's activities

United Methodist Women Executive Committee will meet at 10 a.m. Monday. Sarah Circle will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. Priscilla Circle will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Tamy Cullinane as hostess and Susan Menk, program. Cana Women will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday. Naomi Circle will meet at March 15 with Kathi Hefti, hostess.

Lenten Bible study

There will be Bible study at Park United Methodist Church from 10-11 a.m. Wednesdays during Lent. The first session will be Wednesday. Attendees will read and discuss the lectionary with emphasis on the gospels.

'Jesus, the Living Torah'

The Bible study of the Hebrew Roots of Christianity continues each Friday at 7 p.m. at Christ Community Church, sponsored by Olive Branch Ministry. This week's topic is "Jesus, the Living Torah," focusing on how Jesus lived out the teaching of the Law/Torah.

Weigh Down Workshop

CROSSLAKE -- The Weigh Down Workshop, a 12-week weight loss seminar, is being offered by Crossroads Christian Assembly of God, Crosslake, beginning March 23. A free orientation meeting will be 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Crosslake Community Center. Contact Jacque Kvanvig at 568-4129 for details.
