One hundred and fifty lifters, will participate in the 14th annual Sertoma Sunrise Warrior Liftathon March 10 and 11 at 3:30 p.m. both days in the Brainerd High School weight room.
Participants will include 100 boys and 50 girls in grades 8-12. There are 15 fund-raising teams with 9-11 lifters per team.
Lifts will include the bench press, parallel squat and power clean. Each team will be captained by a Sertoma Sunrise Club member, who will seek pledges from the community on behalf of their team.
The Liftathon raises funds for disadvantaged people in the Brainerd area, and raises funds for improvements in the school district weight rooms.
Scholarships will be awarded. Applicants must be a senior and a minimum two-year Liftathon participant.
Participants may also compete for T-shirts based upon Most Pounds Per Ounce guidelines. MPPO is a measure of a lifter's overall strength in relation to body size. The lifter's one-repetition maximum effort in each lift is added together, and divided by the person's body weight to determine the MPPO.
The boys' standard is 4.00 for lifters with a body weight of 250 pounds or less, and 3.50 for lifters with a body weight of more than 250 pounds. The girls' standard is 2.75.
Senior Jessica Radtke, the girls' two-time defending MPPO champion, returns.
The even is free and open to the public.
