Programs for the Brainerd-Baxter Area Golden "K" Kiwanis include: Wednesday, Superintendent Jerry Walseth on "School Districts Bond Issue;" March 13, John Erickson, "Brainerd's Downtown: The Superstore Threat to Small Town Economics;" and March 27, Paul Mans, "Hunting in Canada." Lakes and Woods Horticultural Club
Darlene Turnock will present "Perennials" at 7 p.m. Monday in the Mille Lacs Electric Cooperative conference room in Aitkin for Lakes and Woods Horticultural Club members. Other 2002 programs include Natural Landscaping: Healing the Earth and Ourselves, Weed Control, Landscaping for Wildlife and Hypertufa Containers. The roll call question will be "What is your favorite tree or shrub?" Activities planned for 2002 are the annual garage and plant sale in May, the 6th District Spring Convention in June, a garden tour, and an August Horticulture Show. Officers for 2002 are Dianne Schwerin, president; Roxanne Soderman, vice president; Felicia Forder, secretary; and Carol Wold, treasurer.
Garrison Seniors Group
The Garrison Seniors Group will meet at noon Tuesday. The meeting will have an Irish theme. The activity committee will serve Irish stew, corned beef and cabbage, Irish breads and scones. Members not on the committee are reminded to bring a salad or dessert to share. A program will be presented by Mary Steffenson.
Chapter DV, P.E.O.
Chapter DV, P.E.O. will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the home of Pat Kehr with Susan Wiger assisting. Program: Jan Morton and election and installation of officers.
Coping with Grief
Coping with Grief, an eight-week series of grief support meetings, will be held from 4-6 p.m. each Monday from March 18 through May 13 at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Check at the Information Desk for the room location. A St. Joseph's Hospice social worker will facilitate the groups. Each session will begin with specific informational topics, but all sessions will be open to sharing of participants' concerns. Topics will include the experience of grief, feelings and resources. Sessions are open to anyone experiencing grief over the loss of a loved one. Coping with Grief is a series of meetings. Participants are encouraged to attend all scheduled meetings in the series. Brainerd Garden Club
Wes Urdahl, Crow Wing County Extension, will speak to the Brainerd Garden Club at 1 p.m. Friday at the Lakes Area Senior Center. The Garden Club board meeting will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Front Street Cafe.
Fish and pork chops
The American Legion Post No. 255 of Brainerd will serve fish and pork chops beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Cost: $6.50. Menu includes potato, green salad, rolls, butter and beverage.
The Widowed Friends will meet at 11 a.m. Monday for lunch and fellowship at Bonanza.
Lunch for all the retired cooks will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Perkin's.
Joint meeting for all members will be 7 p.m. Monday. Pork chop dinner and all the trimmings will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Cost: $7. The Holker Family Show will be the entertainment for the evening. Family breakfast will be from 9 a.m. to noon March 10.
College and Armed Forces information night
There will be an information night for those interested in colleges and the Armed Forces from 4-8 p.m. Thursday in the Pillager High School gym. Open to the public. The Aitkin Riverboat Reelers will square dance from 7:30-8 p.m. Plus and from 8-10 p.m. Mainstream on Thursday at Maryhill Community Room in Aitkin. Toni Moore will be the caller. Potluck will be served.

There will be a most beautiful baby contest with registration at noon March 10 at the Westgate Mall.
Mission Possible Senior Club
The Mission Possible Senior Club will meet at noon Wednesday at the Mission Town Hall. There is no program scheduled but there will be a potluck lunch.
Brainerd Auxiliary to Shrine Hospital
Meeting will be noon Monday at the Masonic Hall. Members are asked to pay their dues of $2. Dorothy Lyons, Gen Strobel and Dorothy Carlson are hostesses.
Voiture 778 of the 40ET8 organization of the Brainerd American Legion will hold an Easter bingo at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Funds to be used for Bronco League team and for nursing scholarships.
Pork chop fund-raiser
The Lakes Area Senior Activity Center will host a pork chop supper fund-raiser from 5-7 p.m. March 11. Cost: $5 per person. Menu includes pork chop, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, dinner roll and coffee. You must call 829-9345 before 10 a.m. March 11 to reserve your meal. The fund-raiser benefits the continuing operations of the senior center.
