Crosby-Ironton school choirs to present winter multi-cultural concert on March 9

CROSBY -- The Crosby-Ironton Varsity Choir, Girls' Triple Trio, Boys' Quartet, Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, directed by Wayne Ellingsen, will present their annual winter concert, "A Multi-Cultural Concert!" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in the Mayberry Auditorium.

Opening the concert will be the 72-voice Varsity Choir. They will sing "Siyahamba," a Zulu song arranged by Hopson; "Ahrirang," a Korean Folk song arranged by De Cormier; and "Go Down Moses," a spiritual arranged by Hayes.

The Varsity Choir is accompanied on piano by Julia Henderson and Linda Faatz. Singing solos with the Varsity Choir are Alisha Formo, Tim Faatz, Krystal Graf, Ricky Aulie and Nick Ogborn.

The Girls' Triple Trio, Boys' Quartet and Chamber Singers will perform a variety of a cappella contest music, as well as multi-cultural music. Songs will include "Hashivenu," a Hebrew song by Rao; "Hotaru Koi," a Japanese song arranged by Ogura; "Vive L'Amore," arranged by Parker and Shaw; "Riu, Riu, Chiu," a Spanish carol by Greenberg; "April Is In My Mistress' Face," an Italian Madrigal by Morley; and "Sing Me To Heaven," an American contemporary sacred song by Gawthrop.

Singing solos with these groups will be Mallory Larson, Alisha Santi, Julia Henderson, Cal Presinger, Curt Hanson, John Juracek, Guy Peterson, Mark Taylor, Mike Hofstrand, Matt Dooyema and Ben Kile. The Triple Trio is accompanied on piano by Mariya Hachey.

The 65-voice Concert Choir will perform more a cappella multi-cultural music. Songs will include "Tambur," a Hungarian dancing song arranged by Bardos; "Sing Dem Hern," a canon sung in German by Praetorius; and "Zum Gali, Gali," an Israeli Folk tune by Pisano; "Riversong," a Celtic tune arranged by Emerson; and "The Battle Of Jericho," a spiritual arranged by Hogan.

Admission is $2 for adults; students and children will be admitted free.
