Nathan Moritz of Emily raced an Arctic Cat to victories in Junior 14-17 and Sport 500 divisions Feb. 19-20 at the WSA Hillcross season opener at Park X on Quadna Mountain at Hill City.
Moritz, who went undefeated for the weekend, also won Sport "King of the Hill" award.
Governor's Cup Saturday at Camp Ripley
After a three-year hiatus, the Governor's Cup Ski Race is scheduled 11 a.m. Saturday at Camp Ripley.
The race will be a fund-raiser for the Little Falls High School Nordic ski team. In order to ski in the 2005-06 season, $10,000 must be raised by March 15.
The Governor's Cup Trophy will be awarded to the top female and male freestyle skier for the 25-kilometer loop course.
First-, second- and third-place awards will be given in male and females age divisions.
There will be a mass start for all classes at 11 a.m. The event will be skied on the Viking Trail and Biathlon Trail network.
All registration will be on race day from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Building 7135, adjacent to the post exchange.
Race day registration is $35 for skiers 19-over and $15 for 18-under.
Spirit seeking boys' basketball players
Minnesota Spirit is looking for area boys in grades 7-11 who are interested in forming basketball teams to play in spring tournaments.
A team formation meeting is scheduled 10 a.m. March 19 in the Central Lakes College gym in Brainerd. Tryouts are not necessary. There will be one or two practices a week. Uniforms, insurance and 4-5 weekend tournaments are included in the participation fee.
