Scarlett Swartz and Mitchel Kintop are getting married today at the Timbermist in Brainerd and they won't have their first official wedding anniversary until 2012.
The St. Cloud couple chose to get married on leap year day.
"I wanted a winter wedding," said Swartz. "I looked at the calendar and said, 'Oh, it's leap year on Friday. Let's do it then.' Then everyone would be forced to take a three-day weekend."
Swartz, 26, said when she first looked at the calendar she checked to see if Valentine's Day was on a Saturday, but it wasn't. So the next best date was Leap Year Day.

Kintop, 25, said, "We thought it'd be rare and unique to have our wedding day on leap year day."
The couple plans to go on a big trip every four years on their actual anniversary date. The years in between they'll celebrate it the traditional way of going out to dinner near their anniversary date.
Swartz said when they first told people their wedding date, many didn't realize it was on leap year day. She said later on they figured it out.
Swartz said it was easy to make wedding arrangements for leap year day. The wedding has a Hollywood theme and guests will walk in on a red carpet. The wedding colors are black and red.
The St. Cloud couple decided to have their wedding in Brainerd since Kintop is from Brainerd and he has a lot of relatives in the lakes area. Kintop is a 2000 Brainerd High School graduate. The couple lived in Brainerd when they got engaged.
The couple met in July of 2005 through mutual friends. The group of friends was having dinner at Jimmy's Pour House in Sauk Rapids.
"We hit it off right away," said Swartz. "I thought he was pretty cute."
Kintop said, "I thought she was interesting, an easy person to get along with."
The leap year couple said they have a lot in common, including movies, art, music and they both like the outdoors. They enjoy camping, swimming and barbecuing.
As the couple dated, they realized that Swartz worked for Kintop's sister as a nanny.
Swartz said, "His niece and nephew will say she was our baby-sitter and now she'll be our auntie ... So that's pretty cool."
In the beginning of the relationship, Swartz told her mom that she would marry Kintop. Kintop admitted that at first he wasn't sure about marriage, but then he knew he had the right girl and he proposed to her right before Christmas of 2006.
Kintop said it was a good time to propose because he finished school at St. Cloud Technical College and Swartz finished her schooling at St. Cloud Regency Beauty Institute. Kintop now works at Naham Printing in St. Cloud and Swartz works as a beautician at Panache Salons in Sartell, Brainerd and at Madden's Resort.
The couple plans to live in St. Cloud after they get married.
