Brainerd High School and Central Lakes College athlete Angie Swanson and the University of Minnesota-Crookston women's basketball team ended its season Saturday with a 100-52 loss to Moorhead State.
Swanson had 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in 39 minutes for the Golden Eagles.
Warrior girls seeded third
The Brainerd Warriors girls' basketball team has been seeded third and will host No. 6 St. Cloud Apollo in the opening round of the Section 8, Class 4A tournament 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Brainerd/Apollo winner plays No. 2 Moorhead at 7 p.m. Saturday at a neutral site.
No. 5 St. Cloud Tech will be at No. 4 Duluth East in Thursday's other opening-round game. The winner plays top-seeded Bemidji 7 p.m. Saturday at a neutral site.
Championship game is 7 p.m. March 10 at a neutral site.
Bjorklund scores 16 in defeat
Brainerd High School graduate Chris Bjorklund had 16 points as Cal Poly was defeated 84-76 by Idaho in men's basketball Sunday.
Bjorklund added five rebounds and three assists as the Mustangs fell to 4-10 in the Big West Conference, 9-17 overall.
Cal Poly hosts Pacific on Thursday and Long Beach State on Saturday.
Stefan, Hemsworth winners
HILL CITY -- Arctic Cat racers Dave Stefan of Remer and Curt Hemsworth won their respective features in a Central Minnesota Cross Country Race on Hill Lake Feb. 20.
Stefan won the 440 Fan Semi-Pro feature and Hemsworth won the 440 Liquid Semi-Pro final.
Sara Johnson of Aitkin on a Polaris finished second in the women's final. Rhett Johnson on a Polaris finished second in the 500 Pro final. Finishing third in the youth final was Dallas Westerlund on a Polaris.
Amundson to speak to boosters
Brainerd Warriors boys' basketball coach Brad Amundson will speak to the Brainerd Sports Boosters Club meeting noon Thursday at the Moose Lodge.
Wrestler Trevor McCulloch, the Warrior Athlete of the Week, will be honored.
Brainerd wrestlers win titles
Two Brainerd youth wrestlers participated in the Pelican Rapids Invitational on Saturday.
Devin Janousek, a second-grader at Lincoln Elementary, was first at 55 pounds. Janousek won his first two matches by decision and his third by a pin.
Desmond Janousek, a third-grader at Lincoln, won the 70-pound class. He Janousek won his first two matches by decision and his third by a pin.
