ST. PAUL - Scott Padrnos thrust his arms in the air like he had just captured a Class 3A individual state championship Wednesday night at the Xcel Energy Center.
The Brainerd Warrior senior didn't win a title but he had reason to celebrate after pinning D.J. Tenney of Rochester Century at 1:48 in the 125-pound class.

In two previous trips to state, Padrnos lost his first-round match. On both occasions, his opponents lost their subsequent matches, eliminating Padrnos from the tournament.
"It feels great, just to get that first win at state out of the way," Padrnos said, "but I've got to bring it back (Thursday).
"(Warriors co-head coach Mike) Boran talked to the Albert Lea coach and he told him that all (Tenney) tries is 2-on-1s and shots off that. He got the 2-on-1 and I just stayed with him. He took a shot, I took him down and worked on it from the top. I hooked up a cradle and turned him."
It was a great day to be a Warrior as all three other Brainerd entrants, Nick Lingwall (130), Brandon Mutz (119) and Jake Patnode (135) also wn.
"That's a nice first round," Boran said. "We haven't had a round like that in a while., We're real happy. We wrestled really well. The guys came out ready to go. It was fun."
The fourth-ranked Lingwall struggled against No. 3 Mac Rivard of St. Francis before beating him 6-2. Rivard scored a first-period escape and maintained a 1-0 edge entering the third. Lingwall scored all six of his points in the final 44 seconds.
"That was a big one right away," Warriors co-head coach Jim Kath said. "Nick stayed in good position, he kept on him and kept on him. It was tied when he got a big takedown and got some bonus back points at the end."
Mutz registered a fall at 5:54 against Travis Newell of St. Paul Harding.
"That was a kid he beat earlier," Kath said. "Brandon got a big takedown at the end of the first period to go up 5-0. He wrestled a great match. He kept the pressure on. He was lucky enough that the kid kind of broke at the end there and he got the pin."

Patnode seized a comfortable 8-1 lead against sixth-ranked Matt Piersak of Mounds View before holding off the charging Piersak for a 10-7 victory.
"It was a match he had to win," Kath said. "He faces (defending 125-pound state champion) Matt Mincey of Apple Valley (in the quarterfinals). We may not have carried (into the wrestlebacks) had we not won this match. Jake wrestled two good periods and wrestled a good enough period in the third to win it."
