Brainerd varsity debaters Steffen Johnson and Chris Kelkar, won the right to compete in the National Forensic League National Tournament June 14-19 at Cincinnati. They were named champions of the Northern Light District Tournament held here.

30 years ago (1977)

Brainerd's Golden Glove boxing team, in something of a Cinderella performance, won the Class A Sectional Championships and qualified three fighters for the Upper Midwest Tournament yesterday.

The pay of the rural carriers which is now $60 per month has been increased to $75. Clerks and carriers will receive $600, $800 and $1,100 and $1,200 a year.
