Room at Baptist Church in Pequot Lakes catches on fire; flames kept from spreading

PEQUOT LAKES - A room in the First Baptist Church in Pequot Lakes caught on fire Friday night.

Pequot Lakes Fire Chief Tom Nelson said Saturday morning that the call came in at 11:45 p.m., and firefighters were able to contain the fire in one room that was an office at the church. Nelson said no one was in the church at the time of the fire.

Nelson said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Nelson said the fire caused minimal damage to the church.

About 20 Pequot Lakes firefighters responded to the fire and Ideal and Nisswa Fire Departments and Crosslake Rapid Intervention Team assisted at the scene. Firefighters cleared the scene in three hours.

Pequot Lakes firefighters also were called to a small fire at 6:55 a.m. Saturday at Timberjack Smokehouse and Saloon. The restaurant's outdoor smoker caught on fire that spread to the log fence built around the smoker. About 18 firefighters responded and extinguished the fire.
