Nick Lingwall has wrestled in two previous state tournaments, placing fourth in Class 3A last year at 135 pounds.
This week Lingwall hopes to end his career as a Brainerd Warrior with a trip to the finals at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Lingwall, the Section 8-3A champion who's ranked fourth, wrestles third-ranked Mac Rivard of St. Francis in Wednesday's prelims.
"Rivard's from a tough section," Warriors co-head coach Mike Boran said. "It's a match Nick can win. He will have to be ready to go, but that's all right, at state you run into those guys. If you want to place, you've got to beat them.
"Nick's ready to go. He's got two years experience there, plus he was a placewinner. He's got some lofty goals."

Scott Padrnos (125) is the Warriors' other section champion. He has drawn D.J. Tenney of Rochester Century on Wednesday. He will make his third trip to state where he has yet to win a match.
"Scott's fairly confident," Boran said. "He's a section champion and knows he has a section runner-up. That doesn't mean he will have an easy match, but he can go in on a high, you won your section. Hopefully, he can get through the first one and roll from there."
At 119, Brainerd's Brandon Mutz will make his first state trip. He was the section runner-up and draws Travis Newell of St. Paul Harding.
"Brandon's got a pretty good draw," Boran said. "He has a kid he's wrestled this year and has beaten.
"He wrestled him at the Elk River Invitational and beat him something like 9-3. Going in it's always nice when have wrestled someone, you know a little about him. With all the nerves at the state tournament he can go out with a little less to worry about. We hope he wrestles a match like the first time.
"The first match is pretty important. If you win your first match you don't have to worry about what that guy does in his next match."
At 135, Jake Patnode draws sixth-ranked Matt Piersak of Mounds View.
"Jake's had an ankle injury, we hope he's more recovered from that and will be ready to go Wednesday," Boran said. "Jake's going to have to go out and wrestle a good match. It's important to win that first match so you can advance without worrying about what that guy does if he doesn't win his next match."
