The foot-high dumping of fresh snow left many snowmobile-suited shovelers and plowers with only one question: Where are we going to put all this snow?
Most driveway entrances that once had unfettered visibility now have two huge piles of snow on either side. Leaving one's driveway is now like emerging from a snow cave. A Sunday drive on residential streets in Brainerd gave one motorist the feeling he was trapped in a twisting white maze of snow furrows.
Winter has come back with vengeance. Snowmobilers are gleeful. Traveling is dicey. Homeowners are casting wary eyes at their snow-burdened rooftops. Nobody is speculating when the baseball diamonds or soccer fields will be clear.
We're heading into Minnesota's snowiest month. If March follows its form of the last 10 years, The Brainerd area can expect to receive another 11 inches of snow before we start to see serious melting.
Who knows? Maybe tomorrow's old-timers will talk about the "Winter of '01" in awestruck tones because of its severity.
Kixters to wrap up their
season Thursday at BHS
Dancers from Aitkin and Pequot Lakes did their part to see that central Minnesota continued to be well represented in the state danceline competition last weekend even though the Brainerd Kixters were eliminated earlier than expected this year.
The Aitkin All Starz Dance Team took the championship in Class A High Kick competition and the Pequot Lakes Revolution Dance Team was runner-up in the Jazz Funk Division. The girls, their parents and their fans have every right to be proud of their accomplishments.
The Brainerd Kixters' loss at this year's sectionals resulted in a disappointing end to their competitive season this year. The Kixters set their goals high each year and the failure to reach the state competition was a tough blow to the hardworking dancers who finished third at state last year and first in 1999.
A perennial power in state danceline competition, the Brainerd Kixters have won state titles eight times in the past 21 years.
Fans of the danceline can send this year's seniors out in style at the concluding performances of the season at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Brainerd High School.
