A welcome burst of sunshine peeked through the city's generally dismal employment scene this morning as Brainerd manufacturer Fred J. Bieber announced his opening of a new plant which will provide 100 jobs here.

Marvin Campbell, president of the Citizen State Bank of Brainerd, was recently named to the Hall of Fame at the 1972 Red River Valley Winter Shows in Crookston. He served as president of the First National Bank of Crookston before coming to Brainerd.

When the mercury fell to -32 here during the night it tied the winter's severest cold set Jan. 17.
60 years ago (1942)
The grand opening of the new Atlantic and Pacific Super Food Store located at 215-217 South 7th Street, one of the finest stores of its kind in Minnesota and the middle Northwest, will take place Wednesday morning.
80 years ago (1922)
Canvass of the city of Brainerd has revealed the fact that Brainerd faces a coal famine if relief is not soon afforded. Turcotte Bros. this morning had 30 tons of hard coal on hand. Nine teams were delivering and that stock would not last long.
100 years ago (1902)
Ever Baker was quite badly hurt at the Parker & Topping Foundry. A large casting fell on his foot crushing it. He was removed to the Windsor Hotel where he is making his home.
