Lowell Elementary School kindergartners celebrated a Teddy bear picnic recently. The students worked together to show parents the song and projects they have been working on. Teacher Jan Wilcox with assistant Kelli Koop collaborated with Media Specialist Sue Schmidt, Technology Specialist Lynn Toumi and Title One teacher Barb Lapka to integrate the areas of reading, mathematics, science, writing, art and music to study winter, bears and hibernation.
Paul Kemp Jr., a Brainerd High School graduate, was named to the dean's list at Northwest Technical College in Detroit Lakes for the 2002-03 fall semester. Kemp is enrolled in the civil engineering program.
Andrew Schock, Staples, was named to the dean's list at University of Mary.
Rebecca Morin and Janel Saline, students in the horticulture studies program at Central Lakes College, received scholarships sponsored by the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association. Landsburg Landscape Nursery in Brainerd sponsored the scholarship for Morin and Lakeside Lawn and Landscape Inc. in Pequot Lakes sponsored the scholarship for Saline.

Shawn Smart of Brainerd was named to the first semester dean's list at Creighton University. Smart is majoring in pharmacy.
Katherine Erickson, Brainerd, and Brandon Town, Fort Ripley, were accepted into Luther College for the 2003-04 school year.
The following students were named to the president's academic achievement list at Northern State University: Erin Thiesse and Cassey Veith, both of Brainerd; and Dustin Hjelmeland, Staples.
Brady Fox, the son of Cindy Gilbert and Mark Fox of Brainerd, was accepted at Alexandria Technical College for the 2003-04 school year. Fox is enrolled in the law enforcement program.
Paul Klapperich, the son of Dave and Jan Klapperich of Baxter, was admitted into North Dakota State University with distinction. Klapperich plans to major in electrical computer science, electrical and chemical engineering. Klapperich is involved in the Drama Club, German Club, A Cappella Choir, Knowledge Bowl, National Honor Society and Student Congress at Brainerd High School.
