Eleven figure skaters from Vacationland Figure Skating Club competed in the third annual Red River Valley International Classic in Moorhead recently.
Competitors came from 28 clubs representing Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Montana. The figure skaters competed in their choice of Moves in the Field, Compulsory, Freeskate, Artistic, Spins or Dance at their test/skill level.
Representing VFSC and top four placements were: Mackenzie Ross, Brainerd, first in pre-juvenile Moves, fourth in preliminary Freeskate, preliminary Compulsory; Tricia Betley, Aitkin, second in pre-preliminary Freeskate, third in preliminary Moves and third in pre-preliminary Compulsory; Logan Mohs, Baxter, second in pre-preliminary men's Freeskate and second in Artistic;
Katie VandeBrake, Brainerd, second in open-juvenile Freeskate, fourth in open pre-juvenile Artistic, open-juvenile Moves; Jackie Lentz, Pillager, third in preliminary Solo Dance, preliminary compulsory, preliminary Freeskate; Quinn Nystrom, Baxter, third in open pre-juvenile Spins, fourth in preliminary Freeskate, preliminary Compulsory; Beth Sexton, Baxter, third in preliminary Moves and fourth in pre-preliminary compulsory, pre-preliminary Freeskate; Ali Snider, Baxter, third in open juvenile Compulsory, junior Moves, open juvenile Spins; Cassandra Paine, Pequot Lakes, fourth in preliminary Artistic and fourth in pre-bronze Solo Dance; Erin Belanger, Pillager, Preliminary Compulsory and Freeskate.
Tara Thompson injured her arm in a practice session but showed her determination by skating her open pre-juvenile Compulsory, Freeskate and Artistic Programs and open juvenile Spins.
Coaches attending with their students were Kerri Hanson, Megan Benedett, Nicole Losch and Kari Kloster.
Skaters are preparing for the 25th annual Ice Show set March 11 and 12 in Brainerd with returning guest skater Jumpin' Joe Sabovcik.
