NISSWA -- Garnet Rogers will perform Friday, March 3, at the Nisswa Community Center as the second musical artist of the spring Grassroots Concerts series.
Rogers will make his fourth appearance in the series of intimate, Friday night concerts, bringing a medley of songs from his eighth solo recording, "Sparrow's Song."
The Canadian, known for his distinctive baritone voice and expressive playing style, last graced the Grassroots stage in October 1997. He also performed in the series in March 1991 and made his area debut in September 1989, sharing the bill with John Gorka.

"Musically I am a direct descendant of Stan and Garnet Rogers," said Gorka. "Their music is in my blood. When I listen to 'Sparrow's Song' I not only hear Garnet's distinctive voice. I also hear him reclaiming his heritage as co-creator of what became known as Stan Rogers' sound. Garnet is an eloquent songwriter and a passionately gifted musician who is commanding as both a singer and a performer."
Rogers sings songs about people who are not obvious heroes and of small victories of the everyday. His humor and wit entertain his audience.
Rogers has turned down offers from major labels to do his music his own way. This considered, he has still managed to attract the attention of the music world's movers and shakers. He has been featured on TV and radio programs such as Mountain Stage and All Things Considered. He has headlined venues such as Wolf Trap and Lincoln Center, sharing the stage with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bill Monroe, Ferron and Guy Clark.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. concert, and non-perishable food donations to the Salvation Army Food Shelf are welcomed by the non-profit Grassroots Concerts.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 11 and under, with no advance sales. For more information call 963-2976 or 746-3930, or visit the Web site www.uslink.net/~bradshaw
