MINNEAPOLIS - Sophomore pitcher Nick Anderson of Brainerd helped the St. Cloud State University baseball team split a doubleheader against Winona State with a 3-2 victory in the second game over Winona State at the Metrodome Sunday.
Anderson pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts, and allowed two earned runs and six hits. In the final inning he retired WSU in order to raise his season record to 2-0.
"I think we had only four complete games last year and being so early in the season, we weren't expecting or planning on him throwing all seven innings," SCSU coach Pat Dolan said in a news release. "He was at 90 pitches and was really throwing smooth the last three innings. He hit 92 mph the first and last inning. Nick really stepped up tonight and did an outstanding job for us."
The Huskies return to the Metrodome for twinbills against Bemidji State beginning at 5 p.m. Friday and at 12:15 p.m. Saturday.
