Biz Buzz: Plans are still brewing for firm at the Northern Pacific Center
Brainerd Lakes Brewery, the micro brewery started by business partners Jesse Grant and Dan Stanifer, is continuing to work on the venture. Their plans are to bottle their own beer and sell it through area retailers - liquor stores, restaurants and bars. Brainerd Lakes Brewery had a tasting event at Bar Harbor on Thursday.
Demand expected to make health care field a growing area
Health care careers - from patient care to medical records and lab work - are expected to grow.
SJMC receives level three designation: St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd recently received Level III trauma designation under the statewide trauma system administered by the Minnesota Department of Health.

Open Forum: Settlement reached in food case
The food-borne illness outbreak that swept through our community in the summer of 2006 and which brought immeasurable anguish to individuals and families finally reached a settlement on Feb. 2nd after a long drawn-out legal battle.
I certainly hope that the designers of roundabouts have improved on the one that I frequented in Clearwater. It was a nightmare and a day did not go by without a traffic mishap.

Our opinion: Governor Pawlenty's visit
Gov. Tim Pawlenty fielded questions with his usual charm and ease at Thursday's Brainerd Lakes Chamber luncheon. He offered a few gentle jabs at unions and a frank admission that he got his "rear kicked" a few years ago when he proposed a Twin Cities casino operated in conjunction with Indian tribes.
The Central Minnesota Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will host it's 14th annual Hunting Heritage Banquet on Saturday at the Nisswa Community Center. Social hour (gobbling hour) begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
