The superintendent of schools they call the Boy Wonder had his night in the spotlight Saturday. Bob Gross, superintendent of the Brainerd schools, was honored as the 1987 Outstanding Citizen of the Year before a capacity crowd at the Elks Club.

Knights of Columbus, behind the smooth floor play and shooting of Stan Goedderz and Dick Geiger and the rebounding of Dick Breen, clipped Bethlehem Lutheran 76-62 to win the YMCA church basketball league's play-off title.

Jim Blazina, Rabbit Lake 4-H Club member, placed second in the district radio speaking contest held in St. Cloud. He was representing Crow Wing County and competing with six other county champions.

Establishment of a speedy delivery and mail collection service for lake resort patrons, summer visitors and residents on the Gull Lake Chain and Whitefish Lake will be inaugurated by the United States Postal Department this summer.

The Northern Pacific Railroad Company have reached an agreement with its operators by which there will be no cut in the salaries when the nine-hour law goes into effect. At Brainerd the change will result in an additional operator being put into service at the depot.
