While no commitments have been made, there are indications there may be major public investment in the proposed MacMillan Bloedel wood products plant near Deerwood. The $60 million plant would process aspen into oriented strand lumber for construction.

A proposed 14-unit townhouse development at the Brainerd Country Club golf Course got the go-ahead last night from the Baxter City Council. The site proposed is on the south side of the golf course.

(Photo) Forty drivers raced toward 40 snowmobiles in a LeMans start to the 2-1/2 hour endurance race at Donnybrook Speedway on the 3-1/2 mile track. It was part of the fourth annual Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Derby sponsored by the Brainerd Jaycees.
60 years ago (1949)
The Brainerd Junior College Red Raiders assured themselves of at least a tie in the NJCC conference with a 70-48 victory over Gogebic, Mich. Tuffy Kovatovich led a fourth quarter onslaught and scored 16 points. Chuck Warnberg totaled 18 for the locals.
80 years ago (1929)
Miss Gladys Little entertained a number of friends at a Washington's Birthday party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Little. Progressive bunco was played, and in keeping with the holiday, hatchets were used as place cards.
100 years ago (1909)
P. M. Johnson, proprietor of the National Hotel, was in municipal court this morning charged with beating Henry Hurley, night captain of police, with his fist. The altercation grew out of the closing of the bar of the National Hotel on Saturday night.
