Nisswa sledder injured

NISSWA - A Nisswa snowmobiler was seriously injured Friday night after he apparently drove off the Paul Bunyan Trail onto Highway 371 in Nisswa and was struck head on by a vehicle.

The State Patrol reported that Vincent Stamm, 48, Nisswa, was driving his Yamaha snowmobile on the Paul Bunyan Trail when he came off the trail and went southbound in the northbound lane of Highway 371 and was struck head on by a Toyota Corolla driven by Michael J. Cathey, 23, Pequot Lakes.

Cathey was not injured. Stamm was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd to be treated for broken ribs, lacerated lung and a head injury, according to the State Patrol.

Alcohol was detected in Stamm's system, according to the State Patrol. No alcohol was detected in Cathey's system. The roads were considered to be icy at the time of the crash.

The accident was reported at 10:47 p.m. Friday.
