Members of the England Prairie Pioneer Club provide free sleigh rides during Christmas and Valentine's week each year. The club was formed in 1979. Each August the club organizes a weekend threshing event. The club site is now the home of an old-time saloon.

Jan Moede, a freshman at Brainerd Community College, has been awarded an internship in the U.S. Treasury with the regional administrator of national banks. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Moede, Route 5, Brainerd.

Miss Nancy Roth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Roth, and Pat De Rosier, daughter of Mrs. Esther De Rosier, flew by jet to Honolulu, Hawaii for a three-week vacation.
60 years ago (1944)
With diminutive Chuck Warnberg sinking 17 points and Myer Skoog turning in his usual brilliant floor game, Brainerd's Warriors chalked up an easy 46-34 victory over Aitkin. Warnberg was practically unstoppable as he drove consistently under the basket.
80 years ago (1924)
Brainerd won its seventh straight victory when the high school basketball quint defeated Park Rapids by a score of 25-15. Brainerd's second team won from Pequot 15 to 14.

Wife, "There was a man around today selling big brass burglar alarm bells to put on the front of the house, so I ordered one."
Husband, "What! You know we haven't anything worth stealing."
Wife, "I know that, but it will make the neighbors think we have."
