BAXTER -- The Baxter City Council on Tuesday annexed about 120 acres of commercial land along the Highway 371 corridor, an area that is expected to receive city services in the proposed $1.4 million utility and road improvement project.
Baxter annexed more than 80 acres owned by Dan Witt located behind Morey's Market & Grille west of Highway 371 North.
The city council also annexed less than 40 acres owned by Mike Kitzman and Headwaters Exchange that includes Party World.
A small triangle-shaped parcel where Edina Realty and General Rental are located east of Highway 371 North was also annexed.
The city received a petition to annex the Slumberland property Tuesday. That annexation public hearing has been scheduled during the April 3 council meeting.
The city approved the proposed $1.4 million utility and road improvement project for that section of Highway 371, contingent upon the city obtaining funding approval from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and that Menard's sign escrow and developer agreements.
The project will create frontage roads along Highway 371 to a point north of the Danielson Road intersection, as well as extend city water and sewer along the new frontage roads and along Whispering Woods Lane to the Menard's site, located at the former Deerland.
