Central Lakes College on Feb. 9 inducted 30 members into the Brainerd chapter of the national community college honor society.
The Upsilon Omega chapter of Phi Theta Kappa accepts members who have achieved at least a 3.5 grade-point average and completed 12 hours of coursework in an associate degree program, said Vicky Knickerbocker, co-adviser with Nancy Smith.
Sally Ihne, president of CLC, encouraged the inductees to continue intellectual pursuits by doing what they like best, keeping high expectations for themselves and others, reading, trying new things, accepting challenges and seeking opportunities to experience diversity.
Steve Anderson, instrumental instructor in the CLC Music Department, gave a tribute to the honor students by performing the official Phi Theta Kappa song.
Each inductee received a long-stemmed white rose and gold-embossed certificate acknowledging membership in PTK.
"Each honoree will also receive a Golden Key membership pin, which further recognizes academic achievement and scholastic excellence," said Knickerbocker.
Phi Theta Kappa has recognized academic excellence in two-year colleges since 1918 and has become the largest honor society in higher education. More than 1.2 million members have been inducted at 1,200 colleges.
