Yde scores 34 in Warriors' defeat

MANKATO -- Matt Yde scored 34 points but the Brainerd Warriors fell 72-62 to the Mankato West Scarlets in a non-conference boys' basketball game Saturday.

Yde added 11 rebounds, two assists, and two steals as the Warriors lost their seventh straight game.

"Matt probably played his best game of the season, both offensively and defensively," said Warriors coach Brad Amundson. "It's been great to see him get things going lately.

"The guys played a good first half. We were up nine going into the third quarter, but we couldn't counterpunch their counterpunch. Mankato is a very athletic and competitive team. They're a tough team to play after a 4 1/2-hour bus ride.

"We need to focus now on our big section game against St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday."

BEMIDJI -- The Little Falls boys' basketball team was defeated 79-64 by the Bemidji Lumberjacks in non-conference action Saturday.

Bemidji opened the game by outscoring the Flyers 31-13. Nate Miller led the Flyers in scoring with 24 points and Nick Dahl added 10.
