MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- In front of a record crowd for wrestling at Williams Arena, Iowa showed why it's the nation's No. 1-ranked team.
Wes Hand stunned top-ranked heavyweight Brock Lesnar and the Hawkeyes wrapped up an unbeaten dual season Sunday with a 20-13 victory over No. 2 Minnesota in front of 13,128 fans.
Hand's 5-3 victory over Lesnar, who had been unbeaten, tied the score at 13-13. The Hawkeyes (18-0, 8-0 Big Ten) then won the final two matches to wrap up the victory.
Jody Strittmatter beat Leroy Vega 9-6 at 125 pounds and No. 1-ranked Eric Juergens closed with a flurry of takedowns in a 19-6 major decision over Brett Lawrence at 133.
Iowa built a 10-6 lead with a major decision by Doug Schwab at 141 and wins by T.J. Williams (157) and Gabe McMahan (174). Williams, ranked No. 1, pulled out an 11-10 victory in a tough match with Luke Becker.
Minnesota (16-2) won the next two matches, taking a 13-10 lead on Owen Elzen's 8-4 victory over Lee Weber at 197. But Hand's victory turned it around and the Hawkeyes prevailed after losing their two previous duals to Minnesota.
The Gophers' only other loss this season was to Iowa State.
