LITTLE FALLS -- Lloyd H. Rabel, 73, Little Falls, formerly of Morris, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
He was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Morris Township, Stevens County, to Ed and Mina Rabel. He grew up and attended school in Morris, graduating from Morris High School in 1944. He was a canoe guide in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area during the summer months of his high school years. He entered the Navy on Nov. 23, 1945 and served until 1947. He married Elaine Vig at First Lutheran Church in Morris. They made their home in Bemidji while he attended Bemidji State University. They moved to Moorhead where he attended Moorhead State University and he received his bachelor's degree in education. The couple moved to Redby where he taught for two years. They moved to Herman where he was the Elementary School principal and teacher for 10 years. The couple moved to Wheaton in 1964 where he taught until 1969. They moved to Bakersfield, Calif. in 1969 where he was a teacher at Wasco Orthopedic School until 1993. In 1993, the couple retired to Little Falls. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Little Falls.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Rabel, Bemidji, Jay Rabel, Shorewood; a daughter, Sandy Johnson, Little Falls; eight grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
His parents, a son, Victor Rabel, a brother, Art Rabel, a sister, Gladys Speer, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls with the Rev. David Steffenson and the Rev. Sanna Reinholtzen officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. at Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Little Falls. Arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls.
