The following students were named to the University of Minnesota, Morris 1999 fall semester dean's list: Brainerd -- Rienera Benson, Brandon Hofmann, Desirae Levno and Allison Prusak. Quinn Swanson, Pequot Lakes; and Ann Terwilliger, Pillager.
Andrew Peterson, the son of Hal and Edie Peterson of Brainerd, is a member of the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University Collegiate Management Association. The association provides information and advice for students interested in management.
Peterson is a sophomore.
The regional spelling bee for the Brainerd area sixth, seventh and eighth-graders will be held March 2 at the Staples Centennial Auditorium at 1 p.m. Registration is at 12:30 p.m.
Marni Lundbohm, Baxter, will receive a $1,000 scholarship to apply for his college tuition for the fall of 2000 from the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association. The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Committee awarded the scholarships on criteria from a combination of high school grades, class rank, ACT/SAT scores, paying ability and extra-curricular activities.
To receive this scholarship, students had to be members of the 1999 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association and currently a senior in high school.
Matthew Roscoe, Aitkin, and Leah Seery, Nisswa, received their bachelor's degree from University of Wisconsin-River Falls during fall commencement. Roscoe majored in business administration and Seery earned a degree in biology.
The following students were named to the 1999 fall semester dean's list from University of Wisconsin-River Falls: Jericho Duda, Brainerd; Matthew Hartwig, Little Falls; and Mindy Craft, Motley.
The winners of the Brainerd School District Spelling Bee are as follows: Second grade -- Charles Riley, Lincoln, champion; Carolyn Badger, St. Francis, runner-up. Third grade: Mikala Doughty, Lowell, champion; Randie Swanson, Baxter, runner-up. Fourth grade: Alexander Continenza, Harrison, champion; Mitchell Lorenz, Baxter, runner-up. Fifth grade: Corey Hermanson, Baxter, champion; Ernie Jorgensen, Nisswa, runner-up.
The spelling bee for second and third-graders took place on February 16 and fourth and fifth-graders was February 17 at the Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter. Each grade level was represented by 14 participants from the elementary schools, including Family of Christ and St. Francis.
