Some of us moved to Baxter because of the charm and convenience of burning leaves and brush. The old plan of odd-even addresses is akin to the former "non-smoking table" in a crowded smoky bar law - silly. Why not use every other day or week burning so the air is completely clear on the off days? Don't drop the plan, fix it! Baxter, City of Bans.
Girls deserved recognition
I agree with "Very disappointing" and that little blurb about the champion All Starz of Aitkin. This is a neighboring town whose residents subscribe to the Brainerd paper. These girls have worked really hard to get the championship and should get the recognition they deserve. They should not be punished for not living in Brainerd.
Decisions haven't been wise
I am a fellow taxpayer and do not work for the school district in any capacity. I am sick of the teachers being bashed because there was not a settlement! Have you bothered to consider that what the school board offered was a major step backward for the teachers? The teachers have worked hard to get where they are at on the salary schedule. Why should they be asked to go backward on the schedule? The teachers are being asked to carry the burden of budget difficulties on their backs. This school board has not made wise decisions in recent years.
Hypocritical Dispatch
It's nice to see the Brainerd Dispatch condoning disrespectful behavior. Put it right on the front page of the Feb. 17 edition of the Brainerd Dispatch. The Brainerd Warrior fans being disrespectful. And you know what the funny thing is, I know for a fact you would have never put that stuff in the paper if the Brainerd Warriors would have lost in overtime. That's why you people are hypocrites.
70 wrong?
What does the Crow Wing County treasurer know that 70 percent of the other Minnesota counties don't know? Thanks, Mr. Houle, for thinking of the Crow Wing County taxpayer.
Overstaffed and over-equipped
The city of Nisswa has again decided to raise taxes rather than cut expenses. They did not need to look any further than the police department which is overstaffed and over-equipped for that size of town. Any cities the size of Nisswa are unable to control their police department.
Mediation
It's really too bad that the property taxpayers don't have anybody representing them while all of this mediation is taking place and it's going to be our tax dollars being spent with absolutely no representation. I find that sad.
There is no cost to the Brainerd School District for this service provided by the Minnesota Bureau of Mediation Services.
Taking freedom away
I think Baxter's proposed burning ban is just another one of the freedoms that the government is trying to take away from us.
