20 years ago (1990)

It took almost four years but agreement has been reached on the arboretum road question. The city of Baxter had been seeking a 33-foot strip of land along the southern boundary of the Paul Bunyan Arboretum to extend Jackson Street behind the Westgate Mall.

30 years ago (1980)

It can take anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute, trying to locate the specific phone number for fire, police or ambulance in an emergency. That will come to halt on March 3 when the 911 emergency phone system goes into effect in Crow Wing County.

40 years ago (1970)

Brainerd businessmen and crafts union members joined hands last night in an effort aimed at putting a building in Brainerd's new industrial park. The unions will furnish labor free of charge while businesses will furnish machinery and all materials at cost.

60 years ago (1950)

After six months of hard work by a group of Brainerd skiers, and wonderful cooperation from some local businessmen, the French Rapids ski area is finally open. The tow was running Sunday afternoon and there were 30 skiers, said Maurie Cain, chairman.

80 years ago (1930)

The annual lutefisk supper will be given by the Men's Club of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church tomorrow evening in the church basement. Approximately 500 tickets have been sold and a record crowd is expected. The men will prepare, cook and serve the meal.

100 years ago (1910)

Judge Fleming, Con O'Brien and Henry Cohen, all of this city, have just sold 1,850 acres of land in Crooked Lake, Cass County to the Lawrence Lake Land Co. It will be combined with other land to form an 8,000 acre sheep ranch, the largest in Minnesota.
