Three Brainerd High School athletes were disciplined through the Minnesota State High School League's code of conduct policy for sending a text message that was forwarded to, and critical of, another BHS team, it was learned Friday.
An unknown number of team members received the offensive text message last weekend. School officials did not identify what sports where involved, calling it an internal matter. But the message indicated it was aimed at members of the high school dance team.
The statement from the school district read, "Brainerd High School investigated a report of a text message sent from a Brainerd High School student's phone to a group of Brainerd High School students that was inappropriate. The Brainerd High School school resource officer was consulted regarding this investigation. The text message was sent outside of the school day. As a result of the investigation school officials identified three students involved in the incident and determined the level of involvement by each party. Appropriate consequences, as a result of following Minnesota State High School League policy, were assigned."
School officials declined further comment.
A copy of the text message was obtained by the Dispatch. The text message was considered sexually inappropriate and derogatory of members of the Warriors dance team.
