BAXTER - Gary P. Schmidt, age 63, of Baxter, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Staples with Pastor Roy Miles officiating. Visitation will begin at the church at noon and run until the start of service. Burial will be at the Motley Public Cemetery.
Gary was born on Aug. 25, 1943, at the Staples hospital to Arlo and Leona (Buchholz) Schmidt. He graduated from high school in Crookston, Minn., and from vocational technical school in Staples. He worked as a machinist for 37 years, the last 20 of them at 3M in Staples. He married Dorothy Greenwaldt at the United Methodist Church in Staples on Sept. 12, 1964, and they were blessed with two children. Gary enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing.
Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy "Dot," of Baxter, Minn.; son, John D. Schmidt, of Minneapolis; daughter, Kelly M. Pendegayosh (Sheldon Boyd), of McGregor, Minn.; three grandchildren, Rodney Pendegayosh, Phillip Pendegayosh and Sheldon Boyd Jr.; his mother, Leona Schmidt, of Staples, Minn.; two aunts, Winnie Schmidt, of Staples, Minn., and Clara Schmidt, of Pueblo, Colo.; as well as many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Arlo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
