All businesses are invited to attend a Brainerd sales tax informational meeting from 5:156:15 p.m. March 6 at the Ramada Inn, 2115 S. Sixth St., Brainerd.
The meeting is sponsored by the Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce.
A representative from the Minnesota Department of Revenue will describe how to apply Brainerd's new local option sales tax, beginning April 1. In addition, there will be an opportunity for questions.
All businesses in the 56401 ZIP code received a notice from the state revenue department that included a 7 percent tax table, instructions about the tax and advised businesses in the 56401 ZIP code that they have been automatically registered for the sales tax. If you will not collect this local tax you will enter zero on this line of your sales tax return.
The Legislature and local voters authorized Brainerd and Baxter to implement a local option sales tax to fund the expansion of the wastewater treatment facility; Baxter's tax started in 2006.
