Rev. Willard Vincent Bell, 92, Brainerd, retired minister of the United Methodist Church, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at his daughter's home in Farmington.
He was born July 8, 1909, in Pilot Mound, Iowa, to William and Lillian (Towers) Bell. He graduated from Boone High School in Iowa in 1927, attended Asbury College in Kentucky before getting his undergraduate degree from Morningside College. He completed his master's degree at Columbia University and was awarded a degree in divinity from Drew Seminary in New Jersey. He served as a United Methodist minister for 60 years in Iowa and Minnesota, most recently in Aurora and Motley. He married Mabel Bahr in July 1992.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Margaret Thompson, Dallas, and Marilyn Olwell, Farmington; three sons, David Bell, Salt Lake City, Charles Bell, Brainerd, and Richard Bell, Nisswa; three stepsons, Don Bahr, Bemidji, Delbert Bahr, Brainerd, and Gary Bahr, Brooklyn Park; three stepdaughters, Donna Stedbom, Iowa, and Sandra Bahr and Joanne Swenson, both of Brainerd; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
His first wife, Julia Boyd; his second wife, Alice Weaver; a daughter, Doris Browning; and three sisters died earlier.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with the Rev. Rory Swenson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
