The largest crowd of the season turned out Saturday night to pay tribute to retiring referee Ray Shortridge and to watch Brainerd Golden Gloves square off against boxers from Litchfield and Cormorant.

30 years ago (1972)

John Straka and Wayne Caughey, who have paced the Brainerd High School Warriors' scoring all season, combined for 54 counters here Saturday in a 79-52 smashing of the District 11 power by Coach Corky Johnson's crew.

40 years ago (1962)

Jaycee President Joe DeRosier was awarded the "Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award" at the Annual Junior Chamber of Commerce Bosses Night and Award Night held at the Brainerd Country Club.

60 years ago (1942)

The Crow Wing County Boosters Association delegation charged with the task of telling the people of middle western cities about Crow Wing County as a summer playground are on their way.

80 years ago (1922)

The Elks 100 percent home talent show staged for Monday and Tuesday at the New Park Theatre will fill the house four times. The advance sale of tickets have been heavy.

100 years ago (1902)

The Globe Barber Shop will be open for baths 8 to 12 Sunday forenoons. New first-class barber from Michigan.
