Brainerd and Crow Wing County have a transit coordinator.
Larry Nadeau, a Foley resident and current transportation director for St. Francis School District, has accepted the position and will start his work with the countywide transit program in March.
Previously, he worked as the transportation director for the St. Cloud Public School District.
The countywide transit system, tentatively set to begin June 1, is a joint project between Crow Wing County and the city of Brainerd. Between the city and the county, eight buses will transport people throughout the county.
Nadeau will be paid $35,000, or 85 percent of the full rate for the position.
In other action, the council:
Made a down payment of $68,800 from the commercial revolving loan fund for 61 acres of land near Brainerd Regional Human Services Center, at Highways 18 and 25.
Directed a letter be sent to the Minnesota Department of Commerce to deny Caird Construction its residential construction permit.
Approved Brainerd Police Chief John Bolduc's recommendation for handicapped parking stalls: that the police department continue to use existing state laws; that no citation will be issued at non-conforming sites, with pavement parking only and no signs; that the police department will inspect handicapped parking stalls on a complaint-driven basis, and if the stalls are non-conforming the business will be asked to make upgrades; and parking ticket appeals will not be heard in committee without a representative of the police department present.
Extended a revolving loan fund of $39,470 to Russell and Herder for five years.
Requested Brainerd Public Utilities pay 50 percent of the cost of a Springsted study for the Riverside Drive project, not to exceed $5,000.
Approved the vacation of Rosewood Street between South Sixth and South Fifth streets.
Adopted resolution for improvements and authorized the bidding for utility improvements at Highways 18 and 25 in east Brainerd.
Adopted resolution approved plans and specifications, and authorized advertisement for bids, for improvements at the Northern Pacific Center.
Directed City Attorney Tom Fitzpatrick to handle arbitration with LELS, the police officer union.
