Staples man dies in logging accident near Leader

A 35-year-old Staples man, Jeffrey Fonteyn, died Wednesday night as a result of a logging accident near Leader, the Cass County Sheriff's Department reported.

The sheriff's department said the accident was reported shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"Emergency responders observed the victim had apparently become entangled in the conveyor belt of a horizontal grinding machine at a logging site," the sheriff's department said.

Fonteyn died at the scene.

An autopsy is planned.
