NISSWA -- The Nisswa Chamber of Commerce will dedicate the city's new landmark on Main Street at noon June 7.
An old-fashioned, hometown theme will be used to dedicate the Nisswa Gazebo. The gazebo will be used for listening to live music, poetry readings, public speaking, live radio broadcasts, announcing parades, ice cream socials, backdrops for photographs, weddings or just as a place to sit and remember what used to be.
Ceremony events are being developed to feature speakers, music, dedications, cold lemonade and a gazebo cake.
As part of the festivities there will be a community essay writing event. The Nisswa chamber welcomes any one in the community to compose a 100-word essay on What It Means To Me and Our Community Having a Gazebo in Nisswa. Essays may be submitted in one of four categories: adults (age 18+), children in elementary school, children in middle school and children in high school. One entry per person.
Entrants with an essay recognized as the most creative and well-written from each group will be given the opportunity to read their essay from the steps of the gazebo June 7. Prizes will be awarded to each winner.
Submit gazebo essays to the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 185, Nisswa, MN 56468. Deadline for essay entry is May 9.
The chamber is also looking for people interested in forming a "Gazebo Society of Nisswa." This group of volunteers would plan and coordinate events that would be part of the Gather at the Gazebo throughout the year. Contact Linda Gettelman at the Nisswa chamber if interested at 963-2620.
