Three area dance teams, along with the Brainerd Warriors Dance Team, will travel to the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Friday to compete in the 2003 State Girls' Dance Team Tournament.
Brainerd will compete Friday in Class AAA and Aitkin, Pequot Lakes and Pierz will compete in Class A in kick. Aitkin and Pequot Lakes also will compete Saturday in the jazz/funk category in Class A.
Tickets for the state tournament will be available at the Xcel Energy Center box office beginning at 10 a.m. each day. Adult tickets cost $9 and student tickets are $6.
Young Chefs Club forming
Students in sixth- through eighth-grades who are thinking about becoming chefs now have the opportunity to join an after-school Young Chefs Club.
Club members will meet with area chefs after school and learn from the experts. They will share information about working in the kitchen.
The club will meet from 3:30-5 p.m. Feb. 26, March 5 and 26, April 9 and 23 in Room 806 at Mississippi Horizons.

Blood donors needed
The Red Cross has scheduled a four-day blood drive in Brainerd in order to boost blood supplies.
The blood drive will be from 1-7 p.m. March 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 4, 1-7 p.m. March 5 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 6 at the National Guard Armory, 115 Wright St. in Brainerd. To make an appointment, call Dee at 829-3485.
Free nutrition workshop planned
Five free nutrition workshops are planned in the Brainerd area in March and April.
The workshop called Color Kids Healthy will explore the health benefits colored foods offer. The workshop will provide information on how to buy, prepare and serve colorful meals that are appropriate for children and discuss information on a recent study about how children choose food.
Tammy Yttrie, an area coordinator for Providers Choice, will conduct the workshop. Seating is limited so pre-registration is required. Child care providers will receive a two-hour credit for their annual Child and Adult Care Food Program nutrition training.
The workshops will be 7-9 p.m. March 13 at Crosby-Ironton High School, 7-9 p.m. March 20 at Nisswa Community Center and 7-9 p.m. April 14 and 24 at Brainerd High School. The workshop also will be 9-11 a.m. April 5 at Brainerd High School.
