INTERNATIONAL FALLS - In a game with a lot at stake C.J. Peeters and George Washington scored 15 and 13 points respectively to lead the Central Lakes College Raider men's' team to a 75-59 North Division victory over Rainy River Saturday.
The victory gives CLC a three-way share of the North Division regular season title with Vermilion and Northland. CLC improves to 8-4 in the division.
It also helps the Raiders to the second seed in the Minnesota State Community College tournament. They'll face third-seeded Fergus Falls in the opening round.
Owning a six-point halftime lead, CLC came out in the second half and outrebounded Rainy River.
"In the second half we took care of the ball and went to the free throw line and out rebounded them pretty heavily," Raider coach Jim Russell said of the road victory. "To come into this environment after a long road trip and play our tempo and win a game like this, to get a share of the division title is big for us. I am proud of the guys for the way they came out and played."
Fritz Renelus scored 12 points and Kody Braddix nine for CLC.
"A win like this gives us confidence going into the state tournament playing a Fergus Falls team, who we split with in the beginning in the year," said Russell. "This is what you fight hard for all year long and it paid off today and will hopefully carry over into the state tournament."
