BAXTER -- The Baxter City Council approved several planning and zoning requests Tuesday.
A rezoning amendment was approved from RS, or special/residential cluster, to R-1, low density residential, for Regal Properties Inc., part of Gov. Lot 1 in Section 2.
The minor subdivision plats for Baxter Village and Lakewood were approved with conditions. Council member Mark Cross abstained from voting on the Baxter Village plat.
The preliminary and final plats for Austin Meadows were approved with conditions.
The plans and specifications for The View at Rush Lake were approved with contingencies.
A resolution approving plans and specifications and ordering advertisements for bids for the Norway/Meredith/Lancer/Honeysuckle and Shadowwood Drive Improvement Project of 2004 was authorized.
Partial payment of $184,564.06 to S. J. Louis Construction for the 2003 Knollwood Drive extension, Bronson Road/Michelle Circle and Excelsior Road improvement project was approved. Another partial payment for $20,962.51 for the project to S. J. Louis Construction also was approved.
The council met for a half-hour in a closed meeting to discuss union negotiations. This closed session was continued until the next regularly scheduled city council meeting.
The council plans to meet with staff in a workshop/retreat from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Country Inn. Topics to be discussed include the city's assessment policy, ground water in the Perch Lake area, local option sales tax, Whipple Beach improvements, city space needs and the drug enforcement task force.
