20 years ago (1980)

Terry Holm, who grabbed first place with a time of 59-58 in the 35-44 age group, is the lone member of the 26 Brainerd Area Cross Country skiers competing over the weekend in the Bemidji Berkebeiner to pick off a blue ribbon.

30 years ago (1970)

Warren Welton was honored as Elk of the Year by the Brainerd Lodge. Welton, as past exalted ruler, was born in Aitkin and became an Elk in 1954.

40 years ago (1960)

Jim Isle of Brainerd, one of the sharpshooters in the Central Six Conference, was named to WCCO Radio's "Prep Parade" All State Basketball team of the week.

60 years ago (1940)

Brainerd Senior and Junior High Schools are lining up a program for "Good Citizenship Week." The Brainerd Junior Chamber of Commerce has passed a resolution urging observance and Mayor Frank B. Johnson has enlisted the cooperation of citizens urging diligent thought and study of the significance of the theme.

80 years ago (1920)

-- For Sale by Smith Bros. $2800 -- six room comfortable cottage, north side, five lots, street paved.

-- $2,000 -- Six-room dwelling on south side, four lots.

-- $1200 -- Five-room dwelling on south side, 50 foot lot.

100 years ago (1900)

We have been informed that the Garrison which stood for many years on Portage Lake has been demolished and a new one erected to take its place. This is in line of an improvement, and shows that rapid strides of civilization in a neighborhood where a school house and school ma'am hold sway.
