Lutheran Brotherhood Crow Wing Branch 8381 church communicators and branch officers met with various non-profit organizations to hear their requests and allocate the resources for 2000.
The Branch Challenge Fund is a program through which branches raise funds for community organizations or individuals. Branches apply to have their fund-raising projects matched on a dollar for dollar basis by Lutheran Brotherhood up to a designated amount.
Branch Challenge Fund dollars of $2,333 were divided among Kinship Partners, Trinity Lutheran Children's Center and Family of Christ Lutheran School. The Mid-Minnesota Women's Center, Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity and Lutheran Social Service (HOPE) were each allocated $500 from the Friends In Deed Fund.
Four area food shelves will each receive $175 worth of nonperishable items. These include the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen, The Salvation Army, Bethlehem Lutheran Food Shelf and First Lutheran Pillager Food Shelf. Lord of Life Lutheran Church and Bethlehem Lutheran Church quilting groups will each receive $200 for material for their quilting projects.
The Friends In Deed program provides assistance to branch volunteers working side by side doing hands on projects and distributing basic necessities to needy individuals and families in the branch area.
From the Branch Optimum account, Timber Bay will receive $450 to provide camperships for five youths to attend the camp and $500 was designated for a nursing assistant training scholarship for Bethany Good Samaritan Village.
Lutheran Brotherhood communicators and branch officers serve as liaisons between their branches and Lutheran congregations, schools, outdoor ministries and community organizations. They inform the branch when needs arise in their community, organization or congregation.
They are also responsible to assist the organization with their fund-raising efforts and work projects.
